Event details

Space-based VHF is an emerging technology that seeks to provide VHF voice and data communication services to aircraft operating in remote and oceanic environments via a satellite constellation. Ideally, Space-based VHF will operate seamlessly with existing land-based VHF communications and not require changes to aircraft VHF avionics. Additionally, the satellites would be designed and implemented such that clear channels of communication can be provided to aircraft without interfering with terrestrial or out of service area VHF channels. Space-based VHF communications brings the promise of 100% global coverage with a safety-certified, real-time, service that will enhance the advancements in space-based ADS-B surveillance to provide improved safety, optimized routes, lower fuel burn, reduced environmental impact, and reduced cost for ground-based infrastructure.
