2025 Agenda

To achieve the societal benefits of uncrewed aviation, safe and affordable operations must take place at an unprecedented scale. This requires a paradigm shift in how we think of operations and human roles, supported by new terminology that adequately describes these novel concepts. This discussion explores the transition from the traditional remotely piloted aircraft model, where humans directly control individual aircraft, to a new concept called the Managed Automated Aviation System (MAAS), where human organizations oversee and manage complex integrated automated systems that control fleets of aircraft. It explores paths to safely integrating highly automated systems and discusses the need for terminology describing aircraft with no human occupants.

In this discussion, panellists with expertise ranging from large-scale UA operations to human-machine interaction share their learnings and expertise on the future of large-scale highly automated-system management.
