Rafael Pecos Macías will moderate a panel on the Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030 (CGIP2030). The project aims to position the Canary Islands as a European hub for High Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS) and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) operations. The panel will address the complexities of airspace design, risk assessment, and the necessary integration with existing Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems by exploring the technological, operational, and regulatory frameworks essential to the success of advanced UAS and HAPS infrastructure at the Canarias Stratoport in Fuerteventura.
Panelists, including key experts in airspace design and policy, UAS operations and risk assessment Antidio Viguria (FADA CATEC), Eduardo Pereira (Parque Tecnologico de Fuerteventura) and Fernando Argüeso (Navya), will discuss the steps required to align the operations at the Canarias Stratoport with European and National Aviation regulations. They will also cover challenges such as the need for precise airspace design, compatibility with controlled airspace at Fuerteventura Airport, and the implementation of critical systems such as ground-to-air communications, wind monitoring, and emergency procedures. Attendees will gain insights into the airspace design and risk mitigation strategies employed for low, medium, and high-altitude UAS operations, as well as high-altitude balloon and HAPS missions.
