In a world where airport security and efficiency are of the utmost importance, operators face enormous challenges. This applies in particular to air navigation service providers (ANSPs) seeking innovative solutions to inspect air navigation systems such as ILS or VOR using UAV technology. This reduces inspection time and costs while maintaining optimum air-traffic flow during take-off and landing procedures without compromising safety.
Rohde & Schwarz successfully optimized its renowned ILS/VOR test and measurement product for UAV use and presented R&S®EVSD1000 at Air Space World 2023. This drone-optimized solution has since garnered significant attention from ANSPs and civil aviation authorities.
Among the many examples of this technology is Techno Sky’s outstanding integration of the R&S®EVSD1000, which has successfully replaced legacy vehicle inspections. This pioneering work paves the way for fully automated, drone based ILS/VOR inspections at airports, an innovation that creates a sustainable solution and enhances both safety and operational efficiency in the sky.

At the same time on the other hand, detection and handling of non-cooperative drones has become a crucial aspect. As drones proliferate in today’s crisis regions and terrorist organizations, airports as critical infrastructure are seen as high-value targets. How can we quickly and effectively detect drones to take immediate action and ensure the security of our airports while safely carrying out drone operations. The solution is strategic and decentralized placement of ARDRONIS Detect and ARDRONIS Locate Compact, two state-of-the-art systems specifically designed to meet the challenges confronting airports. The presentation will highlight, how ANSPs and Airport operators can use this non-intrusive technology to detect non-cooperative drones and locate their pilots in order to support authorities in preventing and stopping such activities.
