Event details

In the coming years, nearly all air-ground and ground-ground voice communications will be transported over IP based networks, benefiting from the most advanced architectures available.
This evolution marks a pivotal transformation for air traffic control (ATC) technology, where the integration of full-IP radios and VCS will elevate voice communication systems to an unprecedented level of resiliency.
These advanced IP ecosystems not only provide robust redundancy against hardware failures and significantly increase security but also ease continuous maintenance and network evolution, ensuring long-term operational reliability.

In this dynamic and rapidly evolving environment, the ATC community is highly aware of the need for and the benefits of using monitoring systems to ensure consistently high service performance.
This is underlined by the fact that the standardization organization Eurocae is currently revising ED-138 with a clear focus on system supervision using passive monitoring and active testing.
The presentation will focus on modern architectures for network infrastructures tailored to ATC and how they can be implemented efficiently with technologically advanced, IP based VCSs and radios.
Moreover, different factors contributing to ATC service performance, new ED-138 key requirements and real-world customer cases underlining the need for innovation in network visibility will be highlighted.
Finally, first-hand insights about working with a modern passive quality monitoring system in an operational system will be shared by the air navigation service provider (ANSP) in the Czech Republic.
