DFS Director Operations Munich
In his air traffic control career, Wolfang Bretl began as a military tower controller with the German armed forces. In 1993, he joined DFS as a tower controller in Saarbrücken, later moving to Rhein Radar as an upper area controller. He also served as a teacher at the DFS Academy, instructing mainly in air traffic control in theory and practice In 2005, he returned to Karlsruhe as an operational supervisor and later chief of section, supporting projekts like the P1/VAFORIT ATS system and Munich airspace relocation. In 2013, he became DFS director operations in Munich, including all ATC operations. His key challenges included implementing iCAS II in 2023 and planning for tower refurbishment with minimal operational impact.
