Mike Reed

Global Air Traffic Control Alliance, Prospect’s ATCOs’ Branch

Mike is an operational ATCO qualified for 30 years in Terminal Control at London Centre, controlling in the airspace over London and the South East of England, and also spent nearly 20 years as an instructor and competency assessor.
He is the Chair of Prospect’s ATCOs’ Branch, the union representing almost 100% of the air traffic controllers working in the UK along with many other employees in ATM.
Mike is a board member of the Alliance and has been active as an ATCOs’ Branch representative since 2007, holding various positions including Chair of his unit Section and Chair of both Terms & Conditions and Working Practices. With a particular focus on fatigue and FRMS systems, he has extensive experience in negotiating new rostering patterns and resourcing agreements to help facilitate service and project delivery at both tower and radar centre facilities. One of his most recent roles concerns the recruitment and training of new air traffic controllers in the UK, providing ATCOs’ Branch input to help support new ideas and solutions to maximise success in both areas.
