NATS to reveal blueprint for integrated airspace at CANSO Airspace World

A vision for truly integrated airspace will headline the industry-leading products and solutions being showcased by NATS at CANSO Airspace World in Geneva on 19 – 21 March.

As part of a unique industry collaboration, NATS will demonstrate how Advanced Air Mobility and BVLOS drone operators can be safely and seamlessly integrated into a busy airport environment.

The new concept of operations will illustrate how drone and eVTOL operators can digitally submit flight plans, how they can be seamlessly approved or amended by an air navigation service provider (ANSP), and how digital tower technology can then allow controllers to safely track and monitor every flight within their operation.

The collaboration represents an exciting future where ANSPs can enable truly scalable operations for new airspace users.

Transformative technology. Operational expertise. Unlocking value together.

NATS and Leidos will also be sharing the latest developments with their arrivals spacing tool, Intelligent Approach. Already deployed at Heathrow and Toronto Pearson – NATS and LVNL will share the story behind its recent successful deployment at Amsterdam Schiphol, something that has increased the airport’s capacity by up to six additional landings per hour, per runway.

NATS and Searidge Technologies will be demonstrating how digital tower technology and Artificial Intelligence are being harnessed to improve almost every aspect of an airport operation. Everything from stand plan optimisation, hold line surveillance, traffic light automation, CDM integration and even a fully digital Airport Performance Operation Cell are all now deliverable on a single technology platform.

A pioneering mission to measure global airspace efficiency

A truly global index of airspace efficiency could present a step change in tackling aviation’s contribution to climate change. The combination of world-wide flight data and NATS’ unique three-dimensional airspace efficiency metric – 3Di –  could support the creation of a single picture of global aviation efficiency for the very first time.

This would allow ANSPs to measure the environmental impact of their airspace and identify potential for operational improvements. NATS will be unveiling the concept at Airspace World alongside a call to action to the air traffic management community to help bring it to life.

Industry leading speaker sessions

All this alongside a series of fascinating presentations from NATS leaders, ranging from cyber security and the impact of space launches through to understanding autonomy in advanced air mobility, will be seen at the show starting 19 March.

NATS and its partners are also nominated in four categories of the ATM Awards and will be exhibiting on stand M32.

Meet the Future of ATM: G&D launches innovative all-rounder for the Air Traffic industry at Airspace World 2024

G&D will be presenting its new solution for flexible and reliable IT access in ATC control rooms at Airspace World in Geneva.

From 19-21 March, KVM manufacturer Guntermann & Drunck GmbH will be showcasing its broad range of KVM solutions at booth L39 at the Palexpo Centre, Geneva. The company not only offers an extensive portfolio for ANSPs, but also premieres the DynamicWorkplace-CON, which aims to improve the experience of air traffic controllers in the future.

KVM systems have become firmly established in IT infrastructures of ATC applications. Whether in a tower, a remote tower, or an air traffic control center – KVM solutions from G&D offer flexible IT access, comprehensive redundancy concepts, reliability and contribute to increased cyber security. The systems extend and distribute computer signals, enabling latency-free, high-quality video transmission and allowing the operation of remote sources. The computers can still be controlled in real time from the control room, the air traffic control center, or the remote tower. KVM has become indispensable, particularly in mission-critical environments such as airspace surveillance. G&D’s solutions optimise the IT infrastructure in these sectors and create optimal working conditions for both air traffic controllers and technicians.

Cleared for takeoff: G&D introduces its DynamicWorkplace-CON

One of the challenges in air traffic control is managing different sources of information such as radar images, weather data and flight information on several screens. By introducing a new workplace module (CON), this difficulty is elegantly solved. G&D is keeping up with the trend towards multi-viewing consoles in ATC control rooms and is presenting its latest product for the first time at Airspace World in Geneva: the DynamicWorkplace-CON. The product makes it possible to display all relevant information on one or more high-resolution monitors. This integration leads to a significant reduction in the physical workload of air traffic controllers and at the same time improves reaction times for critical decisions.

The CON module’s multi-viewing function enables the simultaneous operation of up to eight computer sources on up to four monitors. The seamless integration into existing G&D matrix systems is specifically designed for deployment in demanding environments such as air traffic control centers. The DynamicWorkplace-CON allows the consolidation of several CON modules and the associated monitors, resulting in an efficient, organised and therefore uncomplicated working environment. This innovation ensures that the KVM installation is particularly user-friendly. Users can adjust the arrangement of individual computer signals in real time, providing unprecedented flexibility and control. The new product’s window manager enables intuitive operation by allowing the free positioning and management of individual windows. It is also possible to arrange monitors as desired and move windows across monitor borders.

The brilliant image quality and unlimited flexibility in the arrangement of sources add significant value by allowing active work and monitoring areas to be ergonomically designed on larger screens. Up to four monitors with an impressive resolution of up to 4K @ 60Hz can be used simultaneously via the DynamicWorkplace-CON, ensuring superior visual performance for demanding applications. The console device is characterised by the integration of the proven, lossless compression technology bluedec™, which guarantees an authentic, pixel-perfect video experience. In addition, audio signals, serial signals and USB devices from any source can be individually assigned and used.

DynamicWorkplace-CON provides air traffic controllers with an ergonomic view of all critical data without having to look away from the central control point. This leads to a significant increase in efficiency and safety in the control rooms. The German KVM pioneer G&D is thus setting new standards, as the reduction in the number of monitors in the workplace, combined with the improved display and handling of information, represents a major step towards more modern, safer, and more efficient air traffic control.

KVM solutions for mission-critical applications

Thanks to long-standing partnerships with air traffic management organisations worldwide, the German manufacturer is well-positioned in the market and presents an extensive range of classic, uncompressed 4K-capable KVM products tailored specifically to the requirements of ANSPs. One outstanding example is the DP1.2-MUX3-ATC, a powerful KVM switch that enables ATCOs to control up to three computers from one workplace. This system’s InstantSwitching technology enables fast switching operations, ensuring a seamless transition between primary and fallback systems. With extensive expertise in building KVM infrastructures for mission-critical applications, the company offers bespoke solutions. Interested ANSPs and integrators will have the opportunity to receive individual advice at Airspace World from March 19 to 21, 2024 at booth L39 and experience live how G&D is contributing to designing the future of air traffic control.
