SESAR Deployment Manager continues to deliver benefits through the successful implementation of CP1

During the last decade SESAR Deployment Manager has played a critical role in Europe’s Air Traffic Management major transformation.

Under the synchronisation effort of the SESAR Deployment Manager, civil ANSPs, Airlines, Airports, MET Service providers, the Network Manager, Military Authorities and other industry players have conducted an unprecedented set of coordinated investments.

SDM’s latest report 2014 – 2024: A decade of SESAR coordinate deployment shows, just by observing measurable, tangible operational benefits delivered for ATM stakeholders, the estimated value of improvements reaches up to €6.0 billion – mostly in Capacity (reduction of passenger delays) and Climate and Environment (fuel and CO2 emission savings by the aircraft flying across Europe). These benefits significantly outweigh the investments undertaken so far by ATM stakeholders and supported by EU funding (i.e. a total of €3.1 billion for the current 359 projects) and are expected to multiply in the coming years and decades.

The socio-economic impact of the synchronised deployment of CP1 extends beyond the operational level, amounting to approximately €9.0 billion in benefits for the passengers and European citizens, and suppliers working along the ATM value chain.

By coordinating the deployment at EU level of innovative solutions to modernise ATM systems, streamline operations and improve efficiency, SDM supports substantial economic advantages for ground and airborne stakeholders, fostering long-term economic growth and job growth. With over 359 cutting-edge ATM modernisation projects and counting, SDM is facilitating an improved EU connectivity, enabling citizens and goods to move freely, efficiently, and sustainably across Europe.

With air travel set to rise by exponentially, ATM modernisation offers a solution to achieve savings in fuel usage and air travel emissions which will prove critical to contribute in delivering on the 90% emission reduction target by 2040. CP1 alone is expected to save 6.7 million tons of fuel and 21.1 million tons of CO2.
