Greg Okeroa has been an air traffic controller for over 37 years. Since June 2024, he has served as the Vice-President ATC for the New Zealand Airline Pilots Association (NZALPA), where he advises the President of NZALPA on all things ATC. His role also oversees the ATC Council which represents all air traffic controllers in NZ and the Flight Service Council.
In addition to his roles above, Greg is currently the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers Association (IFATCA) Regional Vice-President (RVP) Pacific. This role assists the IFATCA Executive Vice President (EVP) of the Asia and Pacific region, a role he has held for the last 6 years. He is also a founding member of the IFATCA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force.
Prior to the role of VP ATC, Greg has been a NZALPA representative for 15 years, holding the role of Admin Head for the last 10 years. He has also negotiated 4 ATC collective agreements during this time.
Greg began his career as an air traffic controller in 1988, starting with a Tower aerodrome and approach rating, then moving to enroute radar, approach radar and currently controls on Auckland terminal approach radar (for last 24 years), New Zealand’s busiest international airport. As an instructor and a check instructor Greg is always looking to uphold and improve the standards required to provide a safe ATC service. In his role of VP ATC, Greg’s commitment is to continue to develop a good working relationship with his employer, Airways NZ, whilst maintaining and where possible enhancing the profession of ATC. With so many changes on the horizon for aviation, it is important that ATC are involved from the beginning in any discussions on major changes and/or developments
