Delivering a sustainable future

Session Overview

In the aftermath of the pandemic, sustainability and CO2 emissions reduction in particular have become major stakes for European aviation stakeholders. In some cases, solutions might appear straightforward as beneficial for most. In others, history has taught us that a balance is difficult to find.

This is the case for the Continuous Descent Operations concept. Born almost two decades ago, the concept is still struggling to find its place in the air traffic panorama. And perhaps for good reason as it involves resolving the trade-off between efficient vertical profiles and safety. Though all studies show CDO approach would lead to a significant reduction of CO2 emissions, noise, and NOx, the practical application might be more complex for cross-border operations.

This conference aims at providing audience with points of views of both ANSP with DSNA and Airlines with SWISS on CDO deployment. Lessons learnt from experimentation and state of the art will be addressed while the IT provider with Sopra Steria will explain how digital can bridge the gap between research and operational worlds.
