Delivering an integrated airspace for the future
Imagine the future where the mass transit of persons will replace automobiles and roads with flying vehicles that are innovative, safe, cost effective and unique. This disruptive technology requires the creation and transformation of a legislative and policy framework to ensure the orderly relationship between technological advancement, airspace users, ATM and governmental entities and the establishment of a safe and efficient infrastructure to facilitate these future urban air mobility operations. Using the existing principles of law, a legislative strategy should be developed to ensure the orderly and timely implementation of rapidly advancing technology along with commercial and consumer demand. The State of Ohio is in the process of developing this type of framework and implementing a highly advance low altitude surveillance system. This presentation will be focused on the required government interaction working with industry, academia and the public to organize ATM and airspace users to develop a future sustainable landscape suitable for the safe operations of UAS vehicles.
